Taking Clouds For Land is a solo-exhibition of Belgian artist Thomas Willemen hosted by GLUON from Friday October 1st until Sunday October 3rd. Atlantis depicts the desire for a long-lost better world in which history and fiction meet. A utopian dream is displayed on a sunken city, a romantic ocean landscape. Yet every utopia turns into dystopia. The idea of a perfect world never is in reach. Taking Clouds For Land visually refers to the miniature aquarium decoration which defines the world of domesticated fish. The kitsch landscape of an aquarium forms a scenography in which the life of a fish is played out in the frame of human-projected desires. Taking Clouds For Land unveils the illusion of the dreamworld of castles in the theater at play.

Thomas Willemen (°1994) creates sculptures and installations where he immerses himself in the sculptural qualities of everyday synthetic materials. Chewing gum, plasticine or PUR-foam are materials that he then puts in relation or contrast with the shape or function thus questioning the meaning of shapes. Willemen graduated at KASK, Ghent and currently lives and works in Antwerp. He participated in residencies at FLACC (Genk) and Snetha (Athens) and has shown work in Song Eun (Seoul), MuHKA (Antwerp), Z33 (Hasselt) en Netwerk (Aalst).

Opening on Friday October 1st from 18 — 22 pm. Or catch the exhibition on Saturday October 2nd & Sunday October 3rd from 11 am — 19 pm, Slachthuisstraat I Rue de l’abattoir 4-6, 1000 Brussels
