Better Factory is a project in which 28 partners from all over Europe have come together to explore how small and medium sized European manufacturing factories can become more competitive through digital technologies and product innovations. In the project we try to combine these worlds of business, technology and art and we run 16 pilot projects to test how this goes in reality.
In Better Factory, GLUON’s main role is to use our own experiences of working with artists, technologists and companies to support the collaboration experiments, from the earliest stages of matchmaking to the final outcomes.
The Expression of Interest (EoI), which launched on the 25th of April and closes on 25th June, is looking for Manufacturing SMEs and Mid-Caps willing to redesign their current products and services together with Artists and Technology Suppliers and to optimise their production costs. Once applicants are selected for the EoI, they will pass through to the next stage. Here they will be matched with two other applicants to create a “consortium” and given the support they need to jointly write the full proposal for the Open Call. Each consortium consists of a company, an artist and a technology supplier. Successful applicants will explore new markets using digital tools, test and develop new lean-agile production technologies, make deals through the Robotics and Automation MarketPlace (RAMP), access training to re-skill staff, receive business support and mentoring, and to get up to EUR 200,000 funding.
