We are delighted to announce that over the next eighteen months, GLUON will be a partner in the European project Buen-TEK.
Buen-TEK was selected as the winning project proposal in the call for proposals of the new S+T+ARTS South America program of the European Union. Through the S+T+ARTS program, the EU supports inspiring cross-pollinations between Science, Technology, and the Arts. In collaboration with five other European organizations, GLUON will foster innovation through a mix of art, science, technology, Indigenous knowledge, and South American culture. We will work with ten consortium partners from South America, based in Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Peru, Ecuador, and Colombia.
The name Buen-TEK is a portmanteau of the terms Buen Vivir and Lo-TEK, and is also inspired by these two movements. Over the next eighteen months, the Buen-TEK project will host a number of artist residencies, award prizes, and present exhibitions of participating artists. But what do these two powerful concepts, Buen Vivir and Lo-TEK, actually mean?
Buen Vivir is an Indigenous philosophy that promotes harmony between people, nature, and community. Instead of focusing on individual wealth, it emphasizes well-being, sustainability, and interconnectedness.
Lo-TEK (Local Traditional Ecological Knowledge) explores how Indigenous cultures have developed sustainable solutions to environmental challenges. From the Inca waru waru agricultural system to other ecological innovations, these local technological solutions inspire new ways of building a more resilient future.
As part of Buen-TEK we will be hosting one artist residency in collaboration with the Museu do Amanhã in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
