We are delighted to announce the results of the S+T+ARTS Buen-TEK Open Call! Out of 374 submissions, ten promising projects have been selected. Tatyana Zambrano and Hernán Rodríguez will realize their project in collaboration with GLUON and the Museu do Amanhã (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil).
How can ancient wisdom merge with new technologies to shape a sustainable future? Over the next 18 months, artists, researchers, cultural institutions, and communities in South America and Europe will collaborate within S+T+ARTS Buen-TEK to explore these questions through artistic projects. Inspired by Buen Vivir—living in reciprocity with nature—and Lo-TEK—place-based ecological knowledge and resilience (Julia Watson)—the program opens up new perspectives on ecology, culture, and technology.
Tatyana Zambrano and Hernán Rodríguez are developing the project Bunker for a Tropical Pixel to explore the representation of tropical environments in video games. Through 3D animation and the medium of the “movie game,” the project investigates post-tropicalization—a process in which simplified, exoticized, and stereotypical depictions of the tropics, often embedded in game narratives, are deconstructed.
Other selected projects include: Territory, Sound and Shared Memory (Jimmy Carrillo), A spoonful of salt and a spoonful of sugar (Licida Vidal), OBLIVION (Javier Blanco), Direito à Sombra (Mari Nagem), El ritmo que nos conecta (Anthony Tandazo), Territory, Turminta, lo que las tormentas saben (Lorena Salas), Contra-hegemonía mágica (Aliens Institute), and microBIOMAtica (kinkinella).
