In the light of current global challenges related to the sustainable development of our societies, interactions between arts and science have tremendously evolved and expanded in the last decades. For the coming years, GLUON will engage in various interconnected European projects to further explore this new reality and develop ways to support these interactions: The Regional S+T+ARTS (Innovation at the Nexus of Science, Technology and the Arts) Centers gather 7 institutional partners across Europe and develop networking and public activities that strengthen collaborative alliances from regions, partners and various stakeholders. Together they imagine a more viable future for European societies. GLUON and cleantech hub Snowball joined forces as a Regional S+T+ARTS Center. Snowball is a new state-of-the-art cleantech hub in Harelbeke, Belgium. The hub hosts a wide variety of cleantech companies, each combining science and technology for the development of innovative solutions for a greener and cleaner planet. The Cleantech hub also provides an accelerator service to support and help grow cleantech businesses. Stefan Grosjean, serial entrepreneur (most recently founder and CEO of Smappee) and patron of the arts, is the benefactor of Snowball. Over the course of one year GLUON and Snowball will organise a series of thematic networking events and exhibitions that strengthen collaborative practices between the fields of art, industry, business, and research. Furthermore we will also launch a residency program for artists interested in collaborating with innovative companies residing at Snowball. For this first edition the Belgian artist Pieterjan Ginckels and Malinese writer and filmmaker Manthia Diawara have been invited for a residency in collaboration with the experts of the company Smappee.
