Join us to celebrate the launch of Resonance of Renewal, the latest project by artist Roel Heremans. This site-specific interactive sculpture, installed in the entrance hall of the Jules Bordet hospital in Anderlecht, symbolises the continuous progress in cancer research. A light moves through the sculpture every two minutes, representing the speed at which new cancer research is published worldwide. This constant visual flow symbolises scientific progress and offers a hopeful message to all who encounter it.
For this occasian, we also invited biotech entrepreneur and healthcare trendwatcher Koen Kas for a presentation of his latest book ‘EPIC’. In this book, Kas offers new insights into how technology can help us optimise our health and well-being. Becoming epic. The keynote will be followed by a presentation by artist Roel Heremans on the development of the sculpture. We will conclude with a debate between Roel Heremans, Koen Kas and some experts from research institutions such as the Flemish Institute of Biotechnology, IMEC and the Jules Bordet Institute.

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS
Roel Heremans (1990, BE) is a transdisciplinary artist based between Stockholm and Brussels, known for his exploration of the intersections between art, ethics, and technology. His immersive installations, often referred to as “auditory choreographies,” use sound and personal experiences to invite visitors into a state of introspection, while also fostering a sense of group consciousness. Heremans’ work challenges the boundaries between collective and individual awareness. Recently, he has introduced a new layer to his practice by incorporating biodata, such as brainwaves and heart rate measurements, into his installations. This allows his works to respond more directly to the audience’s physical and mental states, creating even more personalized and immersive experiences. Heremans has been exhibited at numerous international institutions and festivals, including Ars Electronica Festival (Linz, AT), Impakt Festival (Utrecht, NL), Sónar +D (Barcelona, ES), GUM (Ghent, BE), STUK (Leuven, BE), Science Gallery (Monterrey, MX), KIKK Festival (Namur, BE), and MHKA (Antwerp, BE).
Koen Kas is a biotech entrepreneur, healthcare trend watcher, founder of Healthskouts (www.healthskouts.com), international keynote speaker and guest professor of oncology at Ghent University. He inspires healthcare institutions, pharma and technology companies with the latest developments (scientific and technological breakthroughs, new start-ups) in biology, medicine, technology and behavioural sciences. He recently published his vision of the future of healthcare in three books ‘EPIC’ ‘Your Guide to Delight’ and ‘Never Sick Again’. His team at Healthskouts design ideas and implementation of new business models to make healthcare ‘delightful’, personalised and preventive. It does so with a personalised, self-learning newsletter and by providing tools to connect data silos.
