Solo exhibition

Gluon, in collaboration with Fundamental Research is hosting an exhibition by Emmanuel Van der Auwera.

The exhibition shows the work developed by the artist during a 3-month residency in the Brain and Emotion Lab at the University of Maastricht under the direction of Beatrice de Gelder and her team.
It is the first exhibition in a series of three exhibitions at Gluon curated by Fundamental Research in 2017/18.

Emmanuel Van der Auwera 

(b. 1982, Belgium). Lives and works in Brussels, Belgium.

Through films, VideoSculptures, conceptual projects and installations, Van Der Auwera unravels the simulation and framing of messages, exploring conceptual and formal filters in the production and dissemination of images.

He studied in France at the École supérieure d’Art in Clermont-Ferrand (2005-2008) and at Le Fresnoy: Studio national des arts contemporains (2008-2010). He is Laureate of a post-academic course at the Higher Institute of Fine Arts (HISK) in Ghent (2014-2015) and recipient of the Langui Award of the Young Belgian Art Prize. His work has recently featured in exhibitions at Wiels, Centre Pompidou, BIP – Biennale de l’Image Possible, Extra City, Meymac Contemporary Art Centre, “Indiscipline,” Palais de Tokyo (curated by Devrim Bayar/WIELS), “Now Belgium Now,” LLS 387, Antwerp, «A Prisoner’s Cinema,” Iselp, and “The End of the World,” Centro per l’Arte Contemporanea Luigi Pecci (Prato, Italy).

Van der Auwera’s work was recently on view in the exhibition “Private Choices” (featuring works from 11 leading private Belgian collections) and in the exhibition “Angst” at the Museum Dr. Guislain in Ghent, Belgium as well as the exhibition EcceHomo in Antwerp and those at galleries Albert Baronian and Sofie Van de Velde. In May 2018, Van der Auwera will have a solo exhibition at the Mu.ZEE museum in Ostend, Belgium and in January 2019, he will open his first major solo exhibition in the United States at Dallas Contemporary (curated by Justine Ludwig).

Fundamental Research

Fundamental Research creates dialogue between artists and scientists whose areas of investigation intersect. Often this meeting occurs at the point of an image. The organization’s activities include residency programs, exhibitions, and discussions, aiming to stimulate trans- disciplinary research and new forms of artistic production. Fundamental Research is directed by Beatrice de Gelder and Harlan Levey.
